Frequently Asked SPORTS medicine Questions

I’m not an athlete. How can sports medicine help me?

Sports chiropractors treat high-level, elite athletes, but they can and do treat busy, everyday people who would like to perform all activities in their day pain-free. No matter what level you’re at, Agape Health & Fitness can take care of everything from rehabilitation of an injury to helping you achieve a new PR in the gym.

Which sports injuries am I at risk for?

Each sport subjects the body to different types of injuries. Contact sports such as football and hockey put you at risk for traumatic jarring of the spinal column that can cause vertebrae to become dislodged. Running and tennis have been shown to place a lot of stress on weight-bearing joints, and can cause injuries to the knees, ankles, hips and feet. Sports that rely heavily on throwing or swinging motions such as baseball can injure shoulders, elbows and wrists.

How does chiropractic care help resolve sports injuries?

Chiropractic care keeps your spine, nerves and joints in proper balance so you can recover from injuries more effectively and maintain a higher level of performance. If you have a sports-related injury, we can correct the problem through adjustments, soft tissue manipulation, and exercise resolving your symptoms and allowing you to get back in the game faster.

Aren’t all chiropractors the same?

You may be surprised to learn that most chiropractors practice differently based on their studies and clinical research. At Agape Health & Fitness, we understand that the combination of joint and muscle manipulation, rehabilitation, and therapeutic exercises offers our patients the best recovery.

Is it safe for me to visit the chiropractor if I am pregnant?

Yes! We have had excellent results with treating expecting mothers because we understand what is happening within the mother’s body and how that affects certain joints, especially those in and around the pelvis. During pregnancy, there may be a feeling of low-back, mid-back, or pelvic pain. Expecting mothers are often not allowed to take certain medications to help with the discomfort; therefore, Agape Health & Fitness has a natural alternative to help alleviate the pain.

Why has Agape Health & Fitness chosen to not be members of PPO or HMO networks?

The reason the doctors of Agape Health & Fitness choose to not participate in HMOs and PPOs is because they believe that the most important relationship is the one between the doctor and the patient. They do not want to create a conflict of interest by binding themselves to an insurance company which may obligate the doctor to provide care based on restricted, pre-determined guidelines of what the insurance company feels is appropriate rather than what the doctor and the patient feel is in the patient's best interest.

Can I set up a payment plan for sports medicine or chiropractic care?

In case of financial difficulty, a payment plan may be arranged in which the patient may pay for services over a period of time rather than paying at time of service or by each month's statement. Payment plans are then monitored to ensure that all agreements are being kept.
